-First shot Dwight is in the center of the basketball court dribbling a basketball, only the court is illuminated and LeBron can be seen walking in with a bag

-Camera pans out, half court above Dwight, empty stadium, court illuminated, Dwight challenges, “I’ll play you for it”
-Camera pans back to LeBron, sitting on the bench, McDonalds back illuminated next to him, seems stunned as he asks, “My lunch?” Camera lingers on LeBron as Dwight starts to explain “First one to miss…”
-Cut close up to Dwight as he continues, “….watches the other one eat.”
-LeBron now standing up, camera slightly lower making the players look larger, DeWight fakes the shake

-Dark backgrounds or no noise in the backgrounds to create focus around celebrity
-Themes of ‘challenging’ or ‘rising to the challenge’ prevalent
-Power of celebrity noticeable
-Celebrities usually a little off center, brand logo takes up less room but still draws attention

ReplyDeleteI like how you drew attention to the fact that the main objects in the ad are the celebrity and the brand logo. I didn't notice that until you mentioned it, but it's an important part of the ad.
ReplyDeleteThe corporate guy at the end of the commercial is actually Larry Bird, one of the legends of basketball. This may be an important detail if you choose to include these last couple of scenes in your final analysis.
ReplyDeleteI think it's really interesting how you chose to show us that advertisers are using famous celebrities that people are familiar with to promote their product. It again is showing us how powerful media is and how using one media outlet (popular TV shows) in another media outlet is actually quite genius, but it shows how much TV people actually watch.
ReplyDeleteI think the most appealing part about this commercial between LeBron and Dwight Howard is its play off of an old McDonald's commercial in which Michael Jordan and Larry Bird- two of the greats of their generation (one big man and one power forward), this one says no jump shots, the original said no dunking and the similarities go on. For someone like me who immediately recognized all the similarities, it shows the advertising models for McDonald's may be targeting a generation that grew up with the original, and now offers something to talk about and a connection between two generations of McDonald eaters.
