Fox News

(I felt I needed two video's to be fair)

Who owns Fox? Fox news is a part of the News Corp family which owns media all over the world. The Murdoch family is the largest stockholder while Saudi prince Al-Waleed bin Talal is the second largest stockholder. The largest shareholder of the Murdoch family would be Rupert Murdoch. A Australian immigrant born into wealth, he took over the news corporation his father held when he was 22. Rupert Murdoch is a prominent member of the conservative party. Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal has made his fortune through the real estate and the stock market. He was announced as being the 19th richest person on the planet. A interesting side note, when fox news was criticizing the Islamic community center near ground zero, they made mention of some of the funds coming from a Saudi prince and hinted at potential terroristic agenda's. It turned out that it was one of their bosses who was actually funded the building of the community center.

I actually spent most of my time trying to find a fair piece for fox news (several hours in fact). The first video is a example of what I mainly found on fox news. They consistently insist that global warming is fake on their news program while never actually debating scientific evidence. The second video was by far the closest thing I could find to a actual debate against global warming. It should be mentioned that the experts profession on the show has very little to do with environmental science. BBC in their article spends time educating about the science behind global warming and many of their articles have this theme. While they do report on major events such as Copenhagen, they don't seem to talk much about specific bills. Democracy Now! is different in this sense, they focus more on the politics surrounding climate change. The main similarities are the obvious ones. They are both talking about global warming but their viewpoints and methods of arguing are quite different. As mentioned above, fox doesn't argue against the fact and instead misleads. This is heavily influenced by who owns the company and the fact that you can't make a scientific argument against global warming any better then you could for evolution or gravity. BBC in general, plays the educator role also because of how its funded. Its works in some ways like a public service announcement at times. They state facts but try to keep their views as moderate as possible to appeal to the most people. Democracy Now! gets into the nitty gritty without feeling the need to constantly go over the science. The reason being, again, the way its funded. People funding Democracy Now! already know that global warming is real. They don't need another news agency going over it. Democracy Now! goes over topics they feel are important that they feel the mainstream media has left out. Democracy Now! holds a strong belief that for democracy to work, the public needs to be well informed.
"For true democracy to work, people need easy access to independent, diverse sources of news and information."
